Amplifier Whining

ok this is the 3rd forums that I am bringing this problem to. I have a Crossfire VR2000D amplifier. When the power to the car is turned on, the amplifier has a very high pitched whine. It whines even after, I unplugged the rca cable, and speakers. One forum says it's my inputs, the other says, it's my ground. I redid my ground and have proper terminals placed to ground it all properly.
What's the deal?

The sound is coming from the amplifier iteslf with both speakers and inputs removed? If it has a fan, the fan is bad, if it has no fan, the amplifier is defective and needs repair. ------------- Support the12volt.com

yeah the damn amp just came back from the shop. I was afraid of that. Now I have to pay shipping to send it back to them after they failed to fix everything.

The reason why you're not getting an accurate answer is because there are probably about 50 reasons for noise to enter a system & none are necessarily more prominant than another until many tests have been done. However, we'll assume that it's not your RCA cables or anything before them.
It could be that the RCA terminals are defective on the amp. Unplugging the RCAs isn't a sure way to check the amp though. If you have a spare crap pair of RCAs, connect the center pole to the outer shielding on each & that will give the amp a mute signal. If it still makes noise, it's either the wiring (power/ground) on the amp or it could be getting a ground from where it's screwed down to. If it's attached to sheet metal, remove it & put it on a board.

Oh, didn't know it came from the shop. That very well could be the reason right there. Many places do hodge podge work. Just fix it enough to get it working.

yeah I'm about to go get the stuff to make a mute plug. If it still whines then what?

You can just stuff a screw into the ends of the cable you have now too. If the whine goes away with the mute plug in, then it's before the amp (RCA cables, crossover, eq, headunit, or just bad placement of a componenet). If it is still there, then it is likely the amp or what I said in the previous post. Since it was repaired, I'm feeling like it is the amp. A pretty sure fire way of finding out is to swap in another amp & change none of the cabling. If the noise goes away, then you know.
