Hey all kwik "age old question". My situation is as follows. Orion hcca 250, in a VW bus. Though an aux. batt would give me longer playtime aswell as help with my current demand, it is added weight. Should a cap be used, thus not being a weight issue. weight of a battery vs. the light weight of a cap. And if so what size?

caps are a waste of money if the weight is a concern  replace your main battery  with a kinetik battery  checkout  www.kinetikaudio.com

Ok.. wait a minute.. weight concerns with a VW Bus.. is it the 155 mph top speed or the 8 second quarter mile time you're trying to preserve?..<grin>

Sorry.. just kidding. I've had a couple Busses, and more than a few Beetles. If yours is an aircooled model you don't have much in the way of a charging system..  that's just the way it is.

Batteries and Caps have different uses.. Batteries don't come into play until system voltage drops to around 12.7 vdc or so.. where caps run at charging system voltage, which could be as high as 14.4 vdc.

Why are you concerned with weight?.. the aircooled Bus is rated as a 1 ton vehicle..
