I finally got the money to buy the Eclipse 5425 and I installed it this afternoon. A huge improvement over my old walmart POS headunit (then again just about anything would have been).
Things I like:
The overall look of the unit, cool looking without being flashy, and the red backlighting matches my car
All the options, lots of control over the sound compared to my last HU, but its not complex like some Pioneer and Alpine can be.
The motorized faceplate is really cool.
I dont have good speakers, so there isnt a huge differance in SQ, although everything does sound better and louder. The 5V preouts also help b/c i dont have to turn my gain up as high.
Things I dont like:
The volume and track slection buttons are hard to grip and WAY to sensitive, its hard to make small adjustments when driving. Im getting the remote next week so that should fix that problem.
There isnt a pause button that I can find.
There arent enough preset EQ modes, I want a good one for rock songs, and you cant save more then one custom EQ setting.
Im gonna go out and put a MP3 in to see how it reads them, and screw with the settings some more.
Overall for what this unit costs ($250 aftet tax) I think its the best deal out there on a HU, unless you buy online.
