Hey guys. I'm looking for a good amp for my 12" Eclipse Ti's. I've been told on ecoustics that the Eclipse amps suck ass. I was looking into a DA7232 amp, but was told to look at something else. What do you guys think? What would be a better amp? I want to give these subs plenty of clean power. I was thinking Zapco, but they're hard to find. Thanks!

I'm surprised to hear anything bad about Eclipse products, amps or otherwise. Eclipse has an excellent reputation in regards to sound quality and reliability. People on this forum who have used their amps have raved about them, although that applies mostly to the 4-channel amps. Their products are not cheap and the company is fairly adept at preventing online sales.

Zapco, Cadence, JL, Diamond Audio, Crossfire (and Eclipse) are some companies that have excellent amplifiers around the same price point. Memphis is well-regarded and a cheaper alternative. I've heard both good and bad about Hifonics, Orion, newer JBL, etc. Were you trying to purchase online or through an authorized dealer? If it's the former, their products will be hard to find. How much power do you want to run to your sub(s)?

I'll be buying on the internet. I'm in a very rural area, and don't want to drive forever to find an amp. I'm looking for at LEAST 1,500 watt to each sub, if not more. I'd like a 3,000 watt RMS amp, or something alike. Thanks for the help!

Do you have the 12" Eclipse SW9122? If so, they're rated at 750 watts/RMS each. You won't need to run 1500 watts to each one; that number refers to the max. power handling of the sub, a number that is irrelevant. You'll need an amp that will preety well match the total RMS rating of your subs.

You will have other concerns, even running 1500 watts/RMS. Do you have a high output alternator? You'll likely need one as that'll be hell on your charging system. Stock alts. are built to meet routine current draw from the automobile, not the demands of a power-hungry aftermarket system. You'll be told to avoid capacitors as they're a crutch, not a solution. If you haven't done so already, you'll have to upgrade your charging system wiring: alternator to battery, battery negative to chassis and the chassis to engine wire.

What's your budget for an amplifier? Depending on how much you have to spend, there's many choices.

I'm an AES Certified Master Mechanic, and I'm looking into another Jeep Cherokee, with 250 amp alternator, and not sure on the batteries yet.

I called Eclipse and they told me the sub can handle 1500 watt to each voice coil, and the RMS was set REALLY low. I like to listen for long lengths of time, but not at a very high volume. And I can spend $1,500+ $2,000 on an amp, but already have the DA7232, but if there's something a lot better, I want it :D. Thanks guys.

I am using the DA7232 to run ONE SW9122 in my Civic. (Easy 2000 watts, and never a single complaint from either the woofer or the amp) The Eclipse amps are HARDLY describable as a "suck ass" amplifier. LCEAN, deep, tight. A perfect combination.

As a side note, I *WAS* using the Eclipse 42430 (1100 watts) to drive that same woofer, and it was not enough power. That woofer will take a metric butt-ton of watts, like I said, I'm throwing 2000+ at it...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

We'll, the guys over on ecoustics seem to shy from Eclipse/Diamond Audio. Guess it's just too good? LOL! They'll run JL, Orion, Zapco, Earthquake, etc. I think I'm gonna go all Eclipse from front to back. These Ti's are amazing...

While the JL and the Zapco amps are indeed excellent gear, I would be VERY hard pressed to include the new Orion or Earthquake amps in the same category as JL, Zapco, and Eclipse.

You're nat taking ALL your cues from those guys, are you? posted_image Isn't that why you came here in the first place - correct information? posted_image

Some of those guys know quit a bit, but the majority are medium-quality guys. You guys are the top-of-the-line sort, like me :D. All my friends are envious of my system, and my parents think I'm physco for spending all the $ and time I do for "just music".

The built quality and circuit topology of that amp is highly impressive. The last one I had in we took apart (to powder coat the aluminum heatsink). It turned into one big mean mother powering two 12" Ti's in an Expedition. Use it, enjoy it or look into an even bigger meaner monster.
