Has anyone experienced problems with Vizualogics FM Modulator (ie. introduced engine noise, poor FM reception,...)?
If so did you replace with a new one or a different brand of modulator? Are my results typical of FM modulators? Is there a trick to getting better results with my modulator.
I have an Eclipse AVX2404 so I am not able to get a direct audio line in.

Yes engine noise is common among fm modulators. What you can do to help is get power and ground from the same point as the radio. I have also found that if the chassis of the fm modulator, if metal, is touching any ground or bare metal in the car it also produces noise so make sure it isn't touching any metal.

Noise with the vizualogic systems seems extremely common. I usually put a noise filter right up before the fm mod as close as you can and it works awesome. I use a style like seen below:
