I have an alpine mrd-m301, the voltage reading on the amp is always lower that the voltage reading on the in-line voltmeter hooked up just before the amp. When the voltmeter shows 14.8v, the amp only shows 14v. I was wondering if theres a way to find out the real voltage reading going to the amp.(multi-meter?)

Yes, use a good quality multi-meter.  Car voltmeters are notoriously inaccurate.
