I was wondering if anyone could please help me out with a "whine" noise that I am receiving through my stereo system.  My system is as follows: an amplifier attached to a capacitor with an audiobahn amplified tube.

The problem I am experiencing is a whine when the car is running.  I have disconnected the rca cables from amplifier and the whine stops.  I go to the back of the head unit, disconnect the cables the whine stops.  This led me to beleive it is the head unit, but as soon as you turn off the ignition the whine completely stops.  I was wondering is this a potential noise coming from the cap?  I do not beleive it is alternator noise as the whine does not increase or decrease with speed, it is constant.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

George

run your RCAs on the opposite side as the battery wire for the amp. if it is already like that upgrade RCAs or equipment.

ss-installer,

The RCAs are running on the opposite side of the battery.  All equipment is brand new.  Which equipment are you suggesting to replace?

Thank you,

George

Buy an audio filter and connect it in your RCA wires. RadioShack sells a pretty good one.  It might help in your situation.

check the grounds for your cap and amp. make sure they are a good solid connection to the vehicle. scrap away any paint on the car to ensure a solid connection. if you have a multimeter, check the ground reference between the batt. and your grounds. it should be less than 1ohm. play around with different spots to ground the equipment, i have a feeling this will help.
