Does anybody know the best and also cheapest way to directly hook up an Ipod to a stock stereo. I drive a 2002 blazer. Thanks for your time.

Maybe post more info about the deck you want to tie this into. Maybe a picture too.

Most stock decks have a cd changer port that an aux cable can hook into. The cable will be like a 12 pin on one side an an rca on the other. Then plug the rca to mini in and run out from under the dash.

some of these adapter cables cost upwards of $100....you'd be just as well off to buy a decent aftermarket HU and add an aux in to that (for like $10)
I have a cradle in my car for my ipod. charges it and plays it through the line-in on the CD player...

Check out the IceLink by Dension, they make adapters like this. BestBuy has them.

Thats why I just put a new hu in my car to hard wire my ipod. The aux adapter was like $85 plus another 20 for the rca cable. I put a new hu with just about every feature you could ever want including an aux input for $250. You can get a decent hu for $150. You could also look at the itrip. I would recommend that over the monster cable fm transmitter. I personally have that and I get static and fuzz just about every where I go. Only like 8 channels to select from. The itrip allows you to broadcast to any fm channel.

Yeah, i've tried and been frustrated by both the itrip and and the monster cable adapter. i need it to be hard wired now. I've been shopping online and all the adapters look way too pricy. I am starting to agree that a new HU would be best. What recommendations could you guys make on an ipod-compatible HUs? Thanks for the help.

Any Pioneer iPod ready HU are great. Get the iPod adaptor and you can access the iPod via the deck and have all information displayed through it.

I just use the ipod itself to control it. Since I have really just gotten used to the Ipod controls I did not feel like trying to figure out how to use it through a new hu. Also a lot of decks require and additional control that is like $100 to control your ipod through the hu. I figured either way its an accident waiting to happen...hahahaha

yeah, i agree about using the ipod controls directly. I have heard theat the ipod controls out there arn't the best.
If you are spending $20 on an RCA cable, you are getting ripped off. You can get a good one from wal-mart for $5-10. Some people go crazy....it is still compressed, digital audio, it will only get so good....
I like Alpine HU's, but they are a little pricy. If you want a good value, I'd go with pioneer. If you go over to ipodlounge.com, you can get some help from people over there on the more ipod specific parts...

I just checked out some of the factory radio auxiliary input converters on crutchfield and they are more expensive and bulky. I got a P.I.E. PIO/P-RCA aux. input converter for my Pioneer HU for about $30. I also got a mini-jack to RCA cable for $5 (I got 2 - one for the vehicle and one for connecting my iPod to my home stereo). I use a Belkin F8V7058 charger for power. The aux. input converter that lets you use the iPod controls would be my suggestion. I haven't heard many good things about the adaptors that let you control the iPod with the HU. Once they work out the bugs with the controls that may be an option. I would rather use my aux input for an iPod than a cd changer (iPod holds more music) or satellite radio (paying for radio - no thanks - plus we have it at work and XM does not impress me).

best buy's ice links work good, if you have the right ones, can display the ipod text and everything... if you're going aftermarket, i'd do alpine, ever ything that i have heard sounds like they work the best with the ipod's, especially this new years 53 and 55's.. i think the interface for them isn't that much, like 50 bucks or so? really not sure on that part tho... i haven't used pioneer ------------- Bad Boys Customs
