A little help in installing aftermarket cd player

    Well, to begin with, I am a college student that does not have enough money to waste on a custom installation from the local audio shops that do not compete with each other for the best price possible.  I believe that the lowest price on an installation of just one head unit, of which I have already purchased, and no wiring harness, and only the space adapter since the hole is a toyota foreign hole, it would cost me upwards of $60 to have completed.  From what I could pick up, which I am by no means slow and am majoring in Electrical Engineering at Ole Miss, I will need to enter the dash where the head unit is located through the glove box.  There are only two bolts as far as I can see in the glove compartment and once loosened, make the glove compartment only that much more harder to move.  Any ideas to be able to access the unit?  Besides the sledgehammer lying on the floor...  Thnx

Sorry, forgot to include make and model.  It is a Toyota Avalon totally decked out and is the 1998 model, one year before they switched to the new body style.

Soud pressure, I thank you for your reply, it will help once I can actually access the head unit itself!!!  But my question is more specifically, since most of the toyota and other foreign cars are manufactured in this fashion, is how can I access the unit?  As I guessed earlier, I think that it is through the glove compartment, but it does not seem to slide out.

Sorry about that guitar,

You will have to pull the panel surrounding the radio it is fastened with clips. After you get that out disconnect the plugs and rememver to reconnect them. After that you should have 4 bolts holding the radio in. I believe they might be a 10mm if not 8 but I think they are 10mm.

Don't most (all?) of those Avalons have the separate amp high up in the driver's kick panel?  I've only done one of those, but it took a little while---- you can use an Isuzu Rodeo harness on one of the amp's plugs, but none of the colors match of course.  And the other one you had to hardwire.  And then you had to extend all of those wires up to the radio location.  If this is the case, $60 is a bargain.

Thank you all for your help, especially Jeff from Velocity Motors.  That is what I was needing.  Sound, thank you also, but the pictures sure do help when describing what I need to do.  Chris, I believe that you are correct in saying that all have a seperate amp;  that is what I have heard.  Sound sent me earlier the cooresponding colors for the Avalons hard wiring, which will help greatly with the task of splicing the wires.  I believe that one of the local dealers that I am in touch with will give me a hand with some of the work now, since I am dating his daughter!  Again, thank you for your advice and guidance.
