What does bi-ampable mean?

I am thinking about buying some Polk MOMO 6x9s. Their website says that they are truly bi-ampable. What does this mean? Also, is POLK MOMO any good?

BI - AMPABLE: i just did some quick research on the web and by the looks of it bi-ampable allows you to actually use 2 amplifiers to run the speaker.

in doing this it allows you to have one amp with midrange and the other amp with treble, allowing two separate crossovers and separate power ratings running the one speaker.

that means you could have midrange @ say 300W

and then have high frequency @ say 140W

i would say you would have to make sure the noise ratio is alot lower (really clean signal) cos im guessing where the two crossover meet (high and low pass) you could have both of the amps power combing ie. 300W + 140W = 440W

Polk is not a brand which you would consider going the more esoteric route of bi-amping for. Make sure you listen to them before you buy...and use the included crossover. Connect to a pair of channels on your amp for a pair of components.
