I have a JL 300/4 that I'm gonna push a 12W3v2 with (2ch bridged)

I was talking to a dealer about something else, and when my plan came up, he said the speaker needs more power.  JL's website, however, says I would be in the optimal power range.

Is this dude just trying to sell me a sub amp or what?  I know a 250/1 would sound better, but I don't want to put the money in one right now.

If I were you I would try it with the 300/4, if you are not satisfied then upgrade.

Believe it or not .. acoustically .. there really isn't the biggest difference between 150 and 250 watts..

Now, this guy is probably not *just* trying to sell you a sub-amp, but he's probably had great results doing w3's to 250 JL watts all day long ... kinda the standard amp for that woofer. Lotsa shops sell 2xw3's and a 500/1 on a deal or whatever.. real common setup... specially for any given JL dealer.

I betcha that W3 will play great.. but you'll definately want an SQ-oriented tune with that kinda power and that amp.

Get those Boston Pros!

Thanks for your help fellas.  I got my sub hooked up and it sounds awesome.  To be in a sealed truck box at the smallest rec. volumn and play like it does really surprised me.  It's not the loudness that is most impressive, but how clean it is.  Since I never had anything but budget stuff in the past, I was not aware of how much noise I had.

And now you know why we tend to push certain things on this forum like quality brands and tend to bash the bling-bling and the flea-market brands.  It's not to get people to pay more it's to get better quality, better sounding systems into people's cars!  Glad you are happy.
