I have had problems with these speakers and I've read that others have had problems too. I have these speakers hooked up to a Eclipse 4 channel amp. The amp is fine without the x-over. When I put in the x-over it shuts the amp down completely. I don't know what the issuse is. These are brand new speakers and I don't know why I'm having this problem. I took them out and put in some different speakers and they worked fine. I know the problem is coming from the x-over but I don't know what is going on.

Sounds like the crossover is shorted.  Return time.

I returned them and I just got them back. when I hook up the speaker directly to the amp everything is fine. When I put the crossover in line it shuts down. Do the speakers need the tweeters hooked up for them to work properly?

You tried a new crossover set and it does the same thing?  I assume you are connecting one crossover to one amplifier channel?  Also I assume you are connecting the crossover to the amp and then the speakers to the crossover and you are not connecting them in parallel?  Try this: connect just the crossover and no speakers.  Power on the amp.  If it goes into protection mode, there is either still an issue with the crossover or the amp is shot.

Ok but the amp only shuts down at medium to high volumes. Its not going into protect..it shuts down.

Then I bet your gain is way too high.

That's gotta be it.  Back the gains off until the problem goes away.

ah, yeah, you should have tweeters hooked up....that would help

I'm trying to think right now if not having tweeters hooked up would cause the amp to go into protect, but my brain isn't working today...

The gains are properly set. They aren't too high. I guess that having the tweeters are suppose to be hooked up. Because they aren't hooked up but I don't know if that would throw anything off and cause the amp to shut down completely.

Having the tweeters disconnected should not cause any issues.  I suggest you take your system in to a professional shop in your area and have them look at it.

**Insulted** I am a professional, but unfortunately I haven't seen this problem before. I have never had a problem out of Infinity until installing it on my own vehicle.

Have you checked the jumpers on the tweeter level?  Maybe you can change this and it may work.  Or maybe you have to take off all the jumpers to run a no tweeter set-up.

So you think the tweeter not being present has an effect on the amp shutting off?
