My friend just got some Alpine Type-R 6.5" coxials and we want to put them in a box. Is there anything we should follow or just make up some 0.5 cu ft box and stick them in?

Just this: these are full-range speaker systems that should be placed to the extreme left and right sides and as close to the front of the vehicle as possible for true stereo reproduction. They are intended to be placed in the original speaker locations of a vehicle such as doors, not in a small box. Try to mount them so they have more airspace than .5 ft^3.
------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Does your friend even have doors? If not I would suggest learning to fiberglass and making some kick panels .

hes got jeep wrangler doors... aka inch think and only on when its cold out. theres not much room to play with in a wrangler so we just made a small box that goes behind the shifter... against the firewall. might build a new one if we have an idea of what it should be

i got the full size doors(not half doors of cloth) and a hardtop, i made the box and it working good but i think the enclosure is way to small... and im going to go look at the doors later today to see if the speakers could be placed there

Do you know what kick panels are jettagli03? If not search for em in the forums. They'll more or less tell you how to build em. Kick panels would only be bad if your friend goes off roading a whooooole lot and gets mud and water in the car near the speakers.

Don't get smart. I have a jeep too, I live in the city though. I'm just advising you look into kick panels. I actually installed the type r coaxials in my friend's truck. They sound pretty nice even on his cheap deck. Good choice with those, kinda expensive though. I got mine for $40.

yes i know what kick panels are and if you've ever looked inside of a jeep wrangler you know there is ZERO room in the from for them on the drivers side. i got the new versions for $55 but i could care less because my friend paid me back :-P we got a box and stuff... no more need for this thread
