Subject: Two 12’s vs. one 10 sub

I have two 12 inch Sony XPLOD (XS-L1236) wired to a Fosgate 700s amp. Is there any one 10 inch sub that will hit as hard as the two 12's that I have or close to it using the same amp? I am looking for more SQ and also to save space and weight in the trunk. My budget is around $200; I can go a little higher but lower is better.

Thanks guys

you will certainly achieve better sq with one ten due to the reduced weight of the cone and other stuff. but hitting hard enough i'm not sure but seing as that we're looking at sony's you will probably be able to get sumthing for around $180 that could pump harder, not sure what though

Use WinISD to simulate what you want. You can compare the two 12s to one ten - no problem.

Thanks for the fast response guys. Would you know of any brand/model? According to the spec sheet for my amp I can push 700 watts rms bridged 1 channel, would this be enough for what I want?

This is highly misleading. That's like saying you can run faster than me because you weigh less than me (although my legs may be longer or stronger than yours). There are other factors involved besides weight that effect the SQ of a subwoofer. posted_image

Arqi:

Hmm.

Yes, you *can* get a 10 that will hit as hard two *Sony* 12's ... but certainly not for $200... or even a little more.

A 10" sub that can ... as far as output is concerned .. compete with 2x12's ... is going to be a sub on the level of the JL W7 ... simply not something you'll be able to get for $200.

For $200 could you try a single 12"? That'd give you a ton more options..

As far as the 10" for that price? I'd look at something like this.

Ultimately, Sony subs or not, you'll have a *hard* time getting a single 10 that will hit as hard as a pair of 12's... for any price.

I was looking into JL 10W7 and it has a lot of good reviews, but it’s around $500. Maybe I should raise my spending limit posted_image .
Here is the list of subs that I am looking at. I would like your opinions on the subs I picked.

Rockford Fosgate T210d2 $649.99 800WRMS
JL 10W7 (Thanks sedate) $500.00 500WRMS
Alpine Type-X SWX-1042D $399.99 1000WRMS
Audiobahn AW1006T       $249.99 900WRMS

I am not sure about the Audiobahn, it seems that it’s an all looks sub but I did find good reviews on it. Most of the prices here are from Crutchfield, I am sure I can find them cheaper if I look around. Any 10 inch subs not on the list you guys recommend? Thanks a lot guys.

Infinity Kappa DVQ from Car Domain approx.  $249.00 look for cheaper price anywhere and they will match it not only that but u get 3 year warranty and they can be trusted. I just received my two tens in the mail, have not heard yet but i saw some good reviews. If you want to save space 1-10" kappa DVQ fits in a .3 cu ft. enclosure thats why  i got  them

you can get 1 10" sub to be as loud as those two 12" sonys but your not going to save any weight if you got a 10" L7 and put it in a vented box and ran that amp at 2 ohms  only thing the L7's are not much for SQ  if you really want SQ and desent SPL i would keep the amp you have and get a 12" soundstream van gogh and if you can find a good soundstream dealer you should be able to get that sub for about $200 also the van gogh 12 " only needs .6 cubes of air space max www.soundstream.com  and remember JL is way over priced IMO

Your right about not saving weight with the JL's subs, there like 30lbs for the 10's. My 12 inch Sony are no more than 20lbs each. I never heard of soundstream, but I did find some local dealers, so I will check them out, thanks for the suggestion Blowntweeters.

Hey elbee12, let us know how your new subs sound when you install them.

Any other input about the other subs I picked?
