heres the situation:

installed pioneer head unit into the car and the deck itself works fine, but now the intrument gauges and heater/ac and shifter lights turn off when i switch the lights on. all the fuses are fine and i cant find anything wrong with the head unit wiring so if anyone has any ideas or have dealt with this before i could really use the help!!!

Unplug the cd player, check the lighting circuit again. To me it sounds like you have grounded the cd player to the illumination wire.
