Hey I recently purchased a subwoofer system: infinity ref611a amp, which gives out 456 watts RMS at 4 ohms, into one 10" infinity kappa perfect 10.1 (which is at 4-ohms), which has an RMS of 350 watts. Do I have a chance of blowing the speaker with this much power? I'd really appreciate any feedback.

It depends on what volume you constantly play your music at. It is always good to overpower your speakers. You should be fine because the kappa perfects are great woofers.

Put your Kappa in a sealed enclosure built to the proper specs and it will have no trouble with that amp.  Be sure you set the gain on the amp properly.

Um, I was under the impression overpowering is a bad thing, unless you are REALLY good at paying attention to volume and not blowing them... Just my insight on that. I'd never over power, I'd under power all day long, but never over.

Just keep in mind its not the power that blows a sub its distortion

As long as the gains are set appropriately for the sub you should be fine. A higher powered amp just insures you can get the RMS rating to the sub with less distortion.

blackmica3, that statement is true to a degree, however there are thermal ratings on speakers and you can melt voice coils with too much power.

Yeah, you can blow a speaker with too much power. It may take time, but you can melt em. :) Smell is great too, let me tell ya.

Actually, distortion does not blow a sub, but power does.  Now tweeters, on the other hand will fry in a heart beat if you feed them too much distortion, or power for that matter.
