I have purchased a sub that has a top mount depth of 5- 5/16". I am looking at an enclosure that is 5-3/8" top (angled box) and 8-1/2" at the bottom. Now based on these measurements it should fit by about 1/16". Will this be ok or should I look for a larger enclosure?

Use a spacer ring between the woofer and box.
Or modify the box slightly, like sanding.
Your main concern is if the woofer has a vented pole piece, it will need air circulation.

Can't get to Kenwoods site for some reason but here is what is listed on the distributers site regarding the pole? Extended pole piece and bumped back plate for increased cone excursion

Ok got to the kenwood website and it says nothing about the pole needing to be vented? Only that it can be used in a sealed or ported box

Right, the sub's magnet has a hole on the bottom of it and it will require some air flow behind it.

Steelcity, it'll have plenty of room. The magnet is not going to be situated against the top of the box, but midway between the box's top and bottom panels.
------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
