Extra SPL

ok i've just made a slot ported box for my RE MT. and as you peops know it is for SPL so i want to know if there is anything extra that i can do to the box to squeeze every last bit of spl out of it. i've been told that it would be a good idea to make the inside edges of the box curved, and to add sound deadening on the inside to it aswell. any thoughts on this and other suggestions?

make the rear assymetrical to the front somehow to prevent standing waves - that'll definitely help.

Alright   I am going to need alot of info.

What size box are you going to run it in?

What Type of Vehicle?

How much Power? From what Amps?

Are you really going for Pure SPL (show only) or are you looking for something that is streetable?



Now I will offer these suggestions but I can help more if you anser the questions.

Almost All the SPL boxes I have personally made, or looked at closly, tend to have angle walls on all flat surfaces except the face. I typically go with about 75-100% of making a 90 degree angle on each side if possible

Fiberglassing the inside of your box, with just resin will help.

When using vents make the transition into the port as smooth as possible.    if there is a 90 degree bend into the port, angle it.    I also have rounded edges of the inside of the port.

I have begun to learn that its all about airflow,   The resin makes a smooth surface, the angles help to reduce deflection and direct airflow in the right direction.   


I must make one comment on the sub choice though.   I have not seen one of these subs work well in a non-Wall application.     I have seen a few in Boxes and they are loud but they really seam to come alive in a wall.

ok thanks alot for the help already. the box info is, due to the smallness of the boot i have only a 2.5cubic foot box. the port is tuned a the moment to hit around 45hz. The vehicle is a hatch (VW LUPO- i believe they are not made in america so check it out on www.volkswagen.co.uk ) . now the fitting is exact, once the box is in it won't move. that means with the boot door closed the sub has maybe 3 inches of space infront of it. To give myself extra capacity i have 'had' to make a wedge enclsoure. The material is a 3/4 inch thick mdf. Now due to finance i am at the moment only hooking up one directed d2400 giving it only 1200w rms. soon i will be running 2-4 of the same amps to it. Now i'm not sure about the difference between street DB and pure spl so you're gonna have to explain it to me a little. thankyou again very very much.

full blown SPL is not driveable. if you try to play it with music instead of a burst tone you will damage the speakers easily because the tuning freq is normally quite high.    This would be used in a compition car only.     Your best bet is to make a large enclosure with a very very long port.

at the moment the port is the equivalence of 5inch in diameter and it is 10.5 inches long giving it the tuning frequency of 43hz. is this streetable, wat kind of tuning frequency would you recommend for street, or even a port length. the box is 2.2cubic feet. thanks again i think street is my cup of tea

I would attempt to make to port as long as possible I.E over 15-20 inches.     and for street I normally tune our boxes from 32-38hz depending on the sub.   With the MT I would go with a 32hz tuning.
