i'm guessing your looking for the factory amp turn on wire....

to find it....

take a meter and look for all the switched 12v wires that are 12v with radio on and nothing with radio off.   then unplug factory radio and see which wire now gives nothing...that will be your output 12v for the amp.

ok, the only wire that is not used that is in the dash, is a solid blue wire.

I hooked the power antenna wire from the head unit to that and it didnt work, I tried the same with the accessories lead from the head unit, still nothing.

But, I just got to thinking.  I was using my own ground(to a bolt in the dash) and not the braided wire in the dash.  Could the braided ground wire be the reason why it wont work?  Could it be the ground for the amp as well, and since I wasnt using it(the braided ground) it wasnt completing the circuit?

if the radio turns on, your ground should be "good enough" to produce sound.....not saying its a great ground but....

i always use the ground strap on chryslers for my ground.

if you hooked the power antenna out from the head unit to said wire and said wire WAS the amp turn on you should get sound while listening to the radio but it would shut off sound when you put a cd in.

ok, I understand that, but what Im saying is the braided wire, would that be the ground for the amp as well, and with me not using that ground as the head unit ground, the amp isnt grounded?  Im just confused.

And that wire is the only wire left in the dash, everything else is in the harness.  And the harness is just for speakers, and battery, access, etc..

no, that would NOT be the amps ground......if that's what youre asking

what I would do, not having any resources at my disposal at the moment is to first figure out if the car has a factory amp seperate of the head unit.    that's it....first step

Where is the black wire from your new head unit running?  If it's not connected to anything, then it may only be grounded through the antenna.  Make sure the amp turn-on is connected to the blue/white on your new head unit.  If you connect this to the blue wire (power antenna) on your new deck, you will get no sound on CD.  Also, some lower end (Kenwood's especially) decks have no power output at all to the power antenna lead, only the amp turn on.

the black wire from the head unit, I just hooked it to a screw in the dash for temp purposes.  It is a good enough ground as the cd player turns on.

About hooking the remote wire from the head unit, to the amp wire.  Thats the thing, I cant find the amp wire.

Yea, you have to have that HU remote wire into amp rem IN for the amp to turn on when you start your ignition. The blue wire should be it, as mine is blue as well. To be sure, take your volt meter and attach positive to the blue wire, and negative to some ground. You should be at 0V, ok? Then start the car, and you should now receive a steady 12V. If thats not it, then keep trying around with all of the wires to be sure.

Yes, the blue wire in the Metra harness will be the amp turn on.  Connect this wire to the blue/white on your head unit.  This wire should show 12v with the stereo on.  If it does not, you can connect to the red wire.  However, if you do this, the amp will stay on whenever the key is on, regardless whether or not the stereo is.

Did you have the factory stereo in there before?  Was it working, or did you maybe just buy this vehicle without a stereo?  You may check to see if the amp has a seperate fuse.
