Subject: is it my ears?

i have an amp for my 4 6.5"s and i normally play my h/u around say level 20. the sound is very clear with no distortion, but when i turn the volume to 10 the bass sounds OK, but the highs seem muffled and so i have to adjust the treble from +1 to +6 for it to sound somewhere close    these speakers are less than a month old is it that i: 1)play them too loud, 2)put too much power to them and now they're broken(it's a 800 watt 4 channel, so i figure about 110 watts to each speaker), 3)or is it my ears already adjusted to the louder highs? i hope i didn't break the speakers or anything like that i never experienced anything like this in my home setup    any help?

probly the amp -- what brand is it? lower quality brands have noticably less of the actual music when at low volumes

i have the front and rear gains set to the middle   i had them all the way at one point just to see how loud it got      but that was just too loud    and i didn't wanna do any damage by leaving them that loud

How did you come to set the gains in the middle? a guess?

Do it right or prepare to get new speakers. It really is that simple.

It sounds like the low frequancy level on the 6.5s are set too high. Thats why it's drowning out the highs at higher volume. Gots ta turn down the boom or fix your crossover.... add passive crossover maybe.

naw its not   on the amp i turned the bass boost all the way off the frequency all the way up   the front speakers are components and the back ones are coaxials i let my subs cover the lows, but i don't even turn those up load   i just want the music to sound good    and it does at high volume    what is this i hear about threshold shift?

find a professional. i think you have effectivly misunderstood everyones advice, and you equipment will fail if your settings arenot properly set. going to a shop to have this done correctly will only cost about $20 probably. and it will save you from replacing anyting in the near future.
