Does anyone have info on the availability of aftermarket in-dash cd changer/receiver units?  I don't care if it's DIN or double-DIN.  Thanks.

Nakamichi makes a few and they can be had on E-bay.

Cool, I will check that out, thanks.  How is the quality on those units?  Is that a brand that you would install into a customer's car?

I use one, the Nak MB-100.  The sound quality is outstanding, but the reliability... sucks.  I bought mine new from an authorized dealer and I'm glad I did, as I had to exchange them three times to get one that worked properly out of the box.  And I've had to have mine repaired twice in the past four years.  The CD transpost mechanism is a brilliant design, but very very tempermental since everything is so small.  Don't try to eject discs while the car is moving as that's why mine broke both times.  But let me tell you, I have heard nothing that sounds better than Nak head units.

Nakamichi is very well respected for its outstanding sound quality, however they have a reputation for higher failure rates. So if you don't mind the chance, you could be very pleased with the sound.

I was and still am looking for a deck from them, when the right one comes along I will take it, reguardless the rep.

Thanks for the excellent info.  I will not recommend a unit from Nak to this customer then.  He just has a failed factory head-unit/changer (Chrysler) and is looking for an aftermarket replacement, and I don't need the hassle of exchanges.
