i plan to install my eq and it has an aux input. i have an mp3 player that is currently being fed to my factory hu by means of the rca tape adapter. i think that plugging it directly into the eq would yield better results. you guys think this would be true also? thanks for your insight.

How will you control the volume when operating your mp3 player?  Via the volume control on the mp3 player.

Unless you have separate gain controls on the EQ for the AUX input, I find it highly unlikely that you will be able to set your gain at a good level for both your HU and your MP3 player.

If you're using a constant "out" on the MP3, like the Belkin Ipod car adapter (actually that's variable, but can be set & left alone) then you're fine & SQ shoud be much better than the tape adapter.  If you're EQ has a volume control like Audiocontrol's do, use that as a preamp.
