Ok I had an amp hooked up in my car. Was doing some rearanging and the ground cable came unconnected. Do I have to disconnect everything completly and reconnect the ground first or can I just hook the ground cable back up. When this happened the power cable was not hooked up to the battery.
To be safe, pull the fuse on the main power cable at the battery (or disconnect at the battery) before you reconnect the ground.

Power cable was completly disconnected and still is but I do have the rca's and speaker wire hooked up. Do I need to pull all of that out before reconnecting the ground? I read somewhere that if the ground is not connected first the amp will try and ground from either the speaker wire or rcas?
just pull out the fuse under the hood of the main power wire
and plug your ground. im positive you wont have problems! after that reinsert your main fuse on your power wire under the hood(or where you positionned it)
but if you have a cap you need to charge it to be sure it is not uncharged or it will do some pretty sparks nothing dangerous except for your fuse
if too much current pass thru it and maybe some of the metal on the fuse holder can have some marks eheheh happened to me before!(to charge it use a resistor and if you are unsure of what im talking about get help from someone who knows about it!)
