ok here goes, say for example you have 2 10" subs @ 4-ohms putting a 2-ohm load on the mono amp. what do you do when you want to add to this but your mono amp can only go to a 2-ohm load? can you buy an 8-ohm sub and wire your first 2 subs in series to create an 8-ohm load and then wire that into parellel with your new 8-ohm sub to put a 4-ohm load into it?

Rxzruby

what are my options for upgradding/adding w/o buying new equipment?

so you want to add subs and keep your amp you have a few options you can get 2 more 4 ohm subs and run your amp at 4 ohms .or you can get 4 dual 4 ohm subs andrun your amp at 2 ohms.

another thing, i was told that amps can not run at an 8-pjm load. 4-ohm & 2-ohm are standard and some hign dollar one @ 1-ohm.

is this correct or can all of them runn at 8-ohm?

You can run an amp at a 1000 ohm load. It just wont make as much power. It is always POSSIBLE to load an amp with a higher impedance, and perfectly safe to do so.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

so you can run any amp on the market at an 8-ohm load?!! it is just half of the wattage of a 4-ohm load?!

1x 10" 8-ohm sub

1x jl 500/1 mono amp @ 8-ohms putting out 250 watts

Works for me & have room for improvements!!

they said no amp can run at 8-ohms. because i wanted a single 8-ohm sub.
