I have hooked up my Alpine CD player to my factory (1999 Mercury Cougar)connector cables as the directions off this site and whenever I hook them up as individually to the power to the constant, and the switched on the deck to accessory on the car I get no power at all. Yet once I switch both from the deck to the Constant on the car I get power but only when my car is running or in the on position for the key. I have checked the fuses and they are all fine. What else could be the reason the deck will not fire up. Any help and advice is hugely appreciated.

It sounds like the factory wire's that you think are the constant and switched are not. You could test the wires easy enough with DMM. I would suggest buying the Metra or Scosche harness for that vehicle and make it easy on yourself. From what you said it sounds like your 'constant' wire is a switched wire, if it only come on when the key is in the on position. So the wire that you think is the 'switched' wire is probably a speaker wire or a ground wire then. Again, with a meter you could find out in no time what your constant and switched wires.

Will need to check this out. The deck was installed once and worked flawlessly is the odd thing. Now that I have been making modifications its not working right. I will try and find one of the adapters as per above and see if this helps out but unsure what really changed in a couple months time.

Thanks again jstruckman for the reply.

Any other thoughts on this issue???
