I have a vehicle with a ton of interior space that needs to be deadened and I have a lot of unused particle board around... I was wondering how good of a sound deadener particle board would make if I covered a lot of the floor area with it. Anyone tried this or heard of someone trying it?

you are wasting your time, i've told many people that i use builders flashing tape for roofing, its the same as sound deadening and its much cheaper. the chipboard wont make a massive difference, i know someone that does that but then puts the flashing tape over it, try it.

Particle board is NOT a good sound deadener, it is more of a reflecter. Plus it'll add so much weight to the vehicle you'd lose several miles per gallon - if that matters to you. Carpet is a better solution if what you're trying to do is reduce the reflections and cut the brightness of the vehicle interior. ------------- Support the12volt.com

The problem I have is that my vehicle has a lot of interior space and it has a very noisy engine. It's a V-8 Diesel. It is a Blazer, which is basically just a short bed truck. So what I wanted to do mostly was lay the wood over the bed and put it on the flat side panel walls that are on the sides of the bed. Then put that carpet padding and carpet over that. And maybe some kind of rubbery paint or that roofing flash under the wood.

i wudnt know how much the flashing tape is as i live in he UK but for me a roll of about 50-60 metres will cost me £2 so around $4 in equivalence. i can see what you are trying to acheive but using chipboard is a little extreme as it is heavy. i personally wudnt put in the wood. errmm, im not entirely sure cus i've never worked on a truck so i think maybe you could find a thin ply around 4mm thick, then apply the tape and finish with the carpet or just leave the wood altogether and just apply the tape and then the carpet.
