Ok can anyone tell me if my 1 Micro Farad Cap is still going to be any good and what I need to do to use it. I have had it unhooked from my system for approx 2 years. I understand they need a charge or something before use. Can I do this myslef and if so how, and what charger???

Thanks for the replies!!!

I believe you can charge them with a test light. Put the light in line of the positive lead and the cap.

I noticed that too, NicP.

If it is a microfarad cap, then it is pretty much useless, not that caps are known for their usefulness.

Ok, how about 1 Million Micro Farads? Sorry about that little detail. I think I got it working fine now anyways. I just simply reinstalled it and powered on the line and the Meter on the Cap is now registering 13.2 when car is off and about the same but fluxuates when steroe and car on. I did get a 200 AMP high output Alternator to add in to my cougar to help out anways.

Thanks for the replies guys!!!

Uh, 1 micro farad cap is about the size of a dime. Are you sure you know what you are talking about??? It would work well for a crossover on a pair of tweeters.

FYI caps are pretty much useless.

i must say since they started to put digital read-outs on caps... it makes monitoring better.

Yeah, volt gauges do the same thing, for like 10-20 bucks. :) Infact I even had one wired up in my car to keep an eye on the system since I was worried about my alternator sucking for the power requirements. Plus it'll give me an idea if the alternator is beginning to fail or if the battery is. So I don't get stranded one day. (Given this doesn't make me entirely immune, but I am more likely to see the problem.) Plus I generally tend to pay a lot of attention to the electrical stuff a lot more now. :) Anyways, volt gauge will do the same for a fraction of the cost.
