Hey guys, newbie question, I haven't used any deadening material in my car and am wanting to do "something" but don't have the bucks to spend on dynamat.  Has anybody ever tried this stuff???https://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=268-010

For a 10x10" sheet, thats pretty cheap I've found.  Even If I use like 3 layers around my door drivers, it seems like an absolute fraction of the price of name brands.   And you can buy the big sheets for around 18 dollars or something like that!  Let me know, thanks!

If I had to guess, and judging by the appearance, it is just Dynamat - the regular kind. I tried it, I didn't like it. Oh sure it worked for a LITTLE while, till the adhesive started failing. Ah, that wonderful Bakersfield sun! And I don't mean it was coming off the panels; the adhesive was sticking to the panels, and the Dynamat was falling off the adhesive!!! posted_image Needless to say, I won't be using regular Dynamat again - especially after I have now rematted my entire car with Extreme! Way better stuff...

no I don't thinks its dynamat, they would have to disclose that if it is.  I think it the same type of thing obviously, just didnt' want to buy something that stinks.  I know I know, it's cheap I get what I pay for, but sometimes cheap works best,  *sometimes*  Anybody else???

What? Is PET milk different from MarvaMaid? What about is difference between the steering wheel on your car and mine?

The little brand embossed in the center of it.

Dynamat is a brand, not a material. The material is an adhesive attached to a rubber coating. The stuff can be resold in all kinds of ways. Same sort of material is used in roof construction.. all kinds a stuff.

Either way, there about a bazzillion cheapo alternatives to Dynamat... I know you can Dynamat Extreme (w/o the logo) for like next to nothing from Grainger but I can't remember the Part#... it's buried in the forums here.. I'll poke around a bit and see if I can't find it.

Here.

https://www.mcmaster.com/

Search for "Polymeric Mastic" ... now open the little [+] next to the search results, and click "Adhesive Dampning Sheets"

Dynamat Extereme, no logo.

Thank stevdart.

That stuff is like regular Dynamat, and probably the stuff at PartsExpress.  The glue does fail after a year or so, it seems, but just a little.  $42 for 36 sq ft is the best bargain you will find though.  I use it if I'm footing the bill.  Best bet:  clean the panels with acetone, and apply a light coat of 3M spray glue to the panel...let it tack up...before applying the sheet.

cool, that stuff at mcmaster is the same thickness and all,  just one question, I'm not stupid or anything, but if I bought quantity 10 of the 10"x10" of the partsxpress stuff, that works out to roughly a 50"x50" sheet correct, or am I wrong??  If this is the case then 50"x50" is @ 1.79 only $17.79. where the mcmaster stuff is 34"x52" for $14.00, oh yeah stevdart, how did you calculate 36sq/ft for 42.00????

No, quantity 10 of the 10x10 would give you 100x10 or 50x20, not 50x50. It's 1000 square inches, not 2500.

34 x 52 = 1768 square inches for 14.00

1768 (square inches) = 12 square feet
12 square feet x 3 = 36 sq ft
14.00 x 3 = 42.00

5 times the area, for better stuff, for less money...

i think you might want to stay away from asphalt based sound deadening supplies.

thanks haemphyst,  that's what I get for thinking, you might think being a commercially licensed pilot I might be able to figure that out without straining my brain.  Anybody wanna go flying???  hahaha

Why is that Phatx???  is the stuff in question at mcmaster asphalt based? I think it is.

asphalt based is lower grade stuff, doesnt hold up to heat as well as butyl based deadeners.  There fore it will be more likely to fall off.  i believe the regular dynamat is asphalt based, the extreme is butyl based.  Second skin makes a good product that is butyl based.  I am still looking for a deadener that is cheap, but after reading i like to get a butyl based product, but they tend to run more in cash.  i think the cheapest i have seen is RAAMmat.   they have a product that is butyl based.
