what causes engine whine on some a.m. stations and to get rid of it...?
is it the ground method..?
truck is a 2004 f-350 head unit is eclipse avn-5495

Most of the time noise is caused by a bad ground, pull the HU out and make sure its grounded directly to the frame of the truck, also double check all your amps and there ground locations

Have a wire brush handy and dont be afraid to use it

Actually AM noise is caused by one of two things. Your antenna might have a bad ground, but since your truck is new unless it has taken a hit I would doubt this. More likely, your ignition ( plugs and plug wires ) is overcoming weak AM stations thru your antenna. Resistor plugs and shielded plug wires should help. If the noise appears anywhere else besides AM Skold is right.
