I have one 1000 watt speaker and i was wondering if i could have like 3 or 4 300 watt amps go it. Or what would be the best way to get the most thump?

One one-thousand watt amplifier. It's gonna cost you less than multiple smaller amplifier with the capability of "strapping", which is what you are referring to.

What kind of woofer do you have?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

First, to answer your question, that woofer, with a quality 500 watts could probably be audible 75 to 100 feet away, BUT that will always depend on the frequency being played, where you are in relationship to the open windows... there are MANY factors in answering that question.

Second, and I am not trying to be a jerk about this, but can you return that woofer? You got "took"... You and I obviously have VERY DIFFERENT definitions of "very nice", when referring to woofers, and very few members here would ever use that phrase to describe Pyramid OR Audiobahn "anythings"... A good quality (again NOT Audiobahn or Pyramid) properly set-up, 300 to 500 watt amplifier would beat that woofer to DEATH.

WOW, dude... calm down. He might not be as experienced in audio as we are... I was trying to be a little bit calmer about it - ya know - more "politcally correct". You and I know it's not the best gear, but geez... no need to make the guy feel bad about his purchase. You and I were there at one time also... In fact, I used to SELL Pyramid, till I learned there was WAY better stuff out there. He came here to get help, not get beat up... Lots of people get caught up in the "bling" and many people don't know there are different levels of quality...

Sounds to me like somebody could use some sensitivity training and a hug... posted_image

Where I would go from this point is: "How much do you want to spend, how much space are you willing to give up, what kind of car do you have, what kind of music do you listen to..."

Some of us will try to help...

For about the price range you recommended you could go with a planet audio big bang sub, or a power acoustik mofo.     and for the amp you could go with something along the lines of a memphis 1000d, crossfire 1000d, or kicker kx1200 (old model)

one other thing you should know is that the enclosure can make or break your system. jeffchilcotts is suggesting good products  the only thing  that i would say is you may want to be a bit lower on RMS wattage so you don't have to upgrade your alternator and or battery i would suggest about 400 to 600 watts RMS and using a slot vented enclosure "box" for your sub .with this wattage and type of enclosure and what music you listen to you should get the results your looking for

What about a 12" SE from Resonant Engineering with a TX1005D from Hifonics? $185 + $175=$360=$90 saving over what you were willing to spend. Hifonics is high end caraudio but it isn't the worst either.
