I've got an alpine cda-9813 deck, some fosgate 6x9s, fosgate components (the ones with the polished pointy metal thing in the middle of the aluminum cone), a alpine m-1000 amp, and a diamond audio TDX 12D4 sub. I have the components hooked up with their crossover, but no tweeters installed. The speakers are 6.5 inch speakers. I have the decks crossover tuned to -12db from 200hz down on the components, but the components still play a lot of bass, leaving me unable to turn them up very loud at all. the deck has the alpine v-drive 60x4 amp in it. I think I could play them a lot louder if they weren't playing so much bass, and I'm not sure why they are playing bass still with the decks crossover turned on and the components crossover installed. the car is a '97 civic dx. does the deck x-over only filter the rca outputs, or does it filter the speaker wire ouputs also?

Actually the built-in crossover should control the output on the built-in amplifier as well as the pre-outs on the RCAs. Refer to pages 15-16 of your owners manual. Make sure the crossover selector switch on the side of the head is set to "F/R Sub". This automatically places a HPF on the "front" and "rear" outputs. If you are using it in "3-way" mode, make sure you are controlling the Mid HPF to limit the bass output. Also, realize a crossover does not "chop off' the sound, it simply lowers the volume of the sound (in your case, at 18 db/octave. That means in a HPF set to 200Hz, the slop begins at 200Hz. At 100Hz, the volume will be 18db lower, etc.)
