2004 Pontiac GTO

OK...I just installed and amp and subs into this guys GTO....

Ever since I did this I have had problems out of it..

Power fused from Battery (Of course).... Grounded to one of the bolts that hold the Gas Tank in place in the trunk ground away the paint to ensure good ground...The Remote wire from the ignition harness ....I Used an Audio Pipe LOC for input signal I just tapped into the rear channel at the speakers in the trunk.

Everything works but sometimes when you crank the car the subs play at max volume just Buzzing...(It hits One HELL of a note) and then after about 20 seconds it stops..

It doesnt do it all the time but it still does it...I Have tried Turn on delays, 3 Different brand LOCs, Different Grounding Points, 2 different remote turn on power sources, everything I can think of...

ALSO the radio in this car will turn on when the car is off...All of the points I grabbed the Remote turn on lead from was Accessory power....And it will still make the buzzing noise...I dont know how though if the key is off how is it getting power to turn the amp on???

I am out of ideas and tired of messing with this car...Anyone have any ideas??? or know of a fix for this ?

Oh and also was going to put in an FM modulator for his IPOD, Used an Audio Pipe Hard wired Modulator and it worked great..But It WOULD NOT pick up ANY Radio stations...Took the modulator out and it picked up just fine..a different FM Modulator and got the same result...Anyone ever had this problem with this car??

I used to like the GTO till this one started kicking my ass in the install bay...

Making the World A Louder Place

I have a 2004 GTO with an aftermarket subwoofer amp...my signal is taken from the factory amp, which is behind the carpet on the left side of the trunk(this amp only does the 2 subs in the rear deck, the inside speakers are amped by the h.u.)
The factory amp receives the rear speaker leads as its input signal; it doesn't have a switched power wire, so I assume that it just turns on whenever it gets an audio signal. I spliced RCAs into the speaker level inputs at the factory amp, but when I had the RCA shielding hooked to the negative speaker leads the h.u. was shorting out, so it's just getting the positive speaker signal right now. It works allright, although there is a little bit of turn-on thump sometimes(not 20 seconds though, for sure). I'd guess your problem has to do with the fact that the signal you're getting is from the factory amp. I'm not sure why, but it's worth a shot to change that.

The accessory wire to the radio switches on with the key, and off when the key is removed; it also powers up when you manually turn the radio on without the key in ignition, which explains your buzzing. Don't know why they designed the car like that, but it's normal.

FM reception sucks on mine too with an FM-modulated changer. I haven't tried to fix it, but I'd assume it's just a weak factory antenna; maybe an aftermarket antenna would do the trick.
