Is there a great deal of difference between preamp output voltage? I am considering purchasing a pioneer head unit but the one I like best (7700) only has 2.8 volt preamp out puts. The other unit I like has 4volt outputs. Is this really going to make a difference?

As long as you set up your system properly (meaning if you use external amps, correctly setting the gain) then in most installs no it won't make any appreciable difference.
