I am a installer and i have heard many different thing on data bus systems ....some people say that if u unhook the radio on GMs that have Onstar it will disable the airbag system....i do not beleive that is right and i just need a second opinion. I do know that it disables door chime and delayed acc.

you can get all of those things back through the aftermarket. the airbag thing is a lie though.

It has nothing to do with the Air Bag,,,use the Pac OS-2 or OS-2 Bose with the CM-1 for chime retention...the only thing you will lose if the vehicle has rear radio controls that will not be supported or factory XM, factory DVD or factory 6 disc like in the Escalades...

Ok I just re-read the pac's FAQ and it states: Connected to this same data wire is the Body Control Module (BCM), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Transfer Case Shift Control Module, Heater & A/C controls (HVAC), Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module, Theft Deterrent Control Module, Memory Seat Module, Drivers Information Center (DIC), Key/Lights/Seatbelt Chimes (most vehicles), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Suspension Control Module, Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and other modules. So it does infact effect the airbags. Or am I reading that wrong -------------

Yes the radio does use the same data bus wire as everything else in the vehicle, but pulling the radio only affects the chimes and onstar, because the audio of the chimes and onstar is done through the radio. Pulling the radio will not affect anything else on the data bus.

No, They share a wire that communicates with each other. It does not detonate from this wire, nor can this wire trigger the airbags. If you also want to look at it they also share a ground but nobody thinks that will set the air bag off. And oh no, they get power from the same place as well.
It is merely communication wire, it will not trigger the airbags. The ONLY reason Onstar and the door chime are affected is because they use the factory radio.

the instructions for a scosche harness say that you have to put the front wheels strait, remove the srs fuse, and uplug all the air bags, before removing the radio or the airbag light will stay on. do you guys follow this or its a waste of time

Waste of time. Just do everything with the key off and you should be fine.

Here is the 99.99% of the issue that a installer does not consider. Here in Canada, chimes are considered a safety device. It is illegal to remove a safety device from a vehicle. What makes the chime a safety device you might ask....... your seatbelt reminder wire. Of all the things. Should I make it to the RCMP, you can bet your best $ that if I pull you over, it will be one of the things that I will be checking for. (and it is just so easy to do). End result can be a vehicle inspection and tow bill on the spot. So guys, buy the right harness, install it properly and don't give the popo a reason to pull you over.  ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

yea that is what i thought......i know that there is interfaces that u can buy that will help to keep the factory settings work still......i but was just wondering if because the onstar is unhooked from the radio, it would disable the airbags....thanks for the input

Databus radio's do not have an ignition wire. You must grab at the fuse box or at the ignition switch. ------------- Jeff

Gm vehicle is pink wire in the ignition harness or brown for acc.
