hello all, just a newbie here but have been reading some great and highly informative posts in this forum for a while, just wanting to throw a topic out there for some discussion since there probably is no true answer, so heres the scenario. vehicle 2002 jeep grand cherokee subs either 2 or 3 12" or 4 10" (make and model up to installer) mids & highs up to installer (make model and number of speakers) amps up to installer (make model and wattage ) cusotmer is looking for a clean hard hitting base so most likely going to go with a sealed box and SQ is a big issue budget = unlimited (this is a perfect world after all) :) am anxious to hear what some of you would have in your vehicles if money were no object thanks alot pat

I don't play fantasy football, either...but let me ask you this: why do you stipulate multiple subwoofers when your goal is SQ, but leave the rest of the slate open? You'll probably get a few fantasy hits on this subject and probably an argument or two between a certain Nakamichi lover and someone else.....but what are you trying to do? Are you in the beginning phase of putting a system together and are truly RICH? Or are you just trying to differentiate between some of the well-respected and the not-so-respected brands and models out there? ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

well actually the system is being installed by a friend of mine who is not too concerned about the overall cost, he just wants what will sound the best and although he would excellent sound quality he would like at least 3 subs although i think that this is a point that i can talk him out of. He is just concerned that with just one sub he will not get the clean base hits that he is looking for, that is all, nothing more nothing less and we were just looking for a few opinions from people who have alot more experience on this topic than we do.

Okay, then, we now have something real to work with...and welcome to the forum! Nobody but President Bush has an unlimited expense account. So ask your friend to pick a number: $10,000 ........ $5,000 ........ $2,000. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Wow, that's a nice budget!  Head Unit: Eclipse or Alpine Speakers: MB Quart, Infinity Subs: JL Audio W7, Eclipse Titanium, Adire Brahma Amps: JL Audio, Xtant, Diamond Audio Misc.: an upgraded alternator, maybe an Optima battery I think your friend would be rather happy with something along those lines. If your friend has anywhere NEAR 10K dollars to put into a single car audio system, he and you should be out at the shops SHOPPING. When you are talking about a sound system, the test is in the listening...not the reading. Take your time, listen to some nice setups. Form opinions.

For 10G, you could afford some REALLY good gear, and some pretty extensive glass work - which you'll need if wanting to install the 40 inch Bohlender Graebner planar magnetics. There's 1000 shot right there! BUT it's a full-range driver, that will cover 125Hz all the way to 18K, down 3dB at 20K! Those drivers'll want 400RMS, up to 800W peak each. I know... I speak from experience, as I have the 50's in my house! (that, and Tom Bohlender is a personal friend of mine!)
If I could afford them, Zapco amps... Since I can't - Eclipse.
Eclipse Head unit - that or a TD1200
Kimber cables for high and low level signals...
Signal processing? Alto UCSPro.
Eclipse Ti 10 inch woofers... trust me - two will be PLENTY!
That oughta burn through 10G pretty quickly! ------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
