I'm thinking about adding a stand alone mid bass driver to the front doors of my 02 Chevy Avalanche. Currently installed in the factory location I have the new Alpine type R 6.5 seperates, I believe if I can find a thin mount 6 or MAYBE an 8 I would have room to have all 3 speakers without to much fabrication. I have looked but everything I find is discontinued ie JL IB4 and I found 1 Kicker can't find the model at this time. Does any quality name brand make a good sounding thiner mid? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any room to modify with a MDF baffle (distance to the grille)...in effect positioning the speaker more forward so that you don't have to have so much depth...and with this in mind, what is the maximum depth you are looking for?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I haven't pulled exact measurements yet but from an eye, with a baffle between the panel and the grill I gain about 2-3in which I believe I can put a normal 6 like a JL and MAYBE some more standard size 8's. If I can't find a thinner speaker I'll get more serious with measurements, I know if I find something that in 3in or thinner I'm good.

Huh?

Lotsa 6.5's that are thinner than 3".... generally something on the order of 2.5 - 2.7" -ish .....

With a baffle (how I did my entire car) I betcha any given 6.5 would work great.

Oh yea... u want to *add* a second pair of 6.5's?

Hmm.. running the same frequencies you'll have some nasty cancellation like that.

How were you going to run those? You understand you cannot simply run them off the mid+- on the Alpine xovers right?
