Will it damage a vehicle if a deck is installed in a vehicle without the module. Scoshe calls it a GM09. The reason for my asking is that I heard the module is mainly used for Onstar and Door Chime. My fathers girlfriend has a chevy cavalier. It is an 03 I belive and Scosche says it requires this module to install the deck. This vehicle does not have, onstar. Would there be any reason to pay the $120 for the module instead of using the 2000-up saturn harness.

You heard correct that the module is for Onstar and Door chime. If you install the deck without the module, in your case, you will lose the door chime. Here in Canada, the door chime is a safety device because I believe it is also a seatbelt reminder. Removing a safety device is illegal and therefore professional installers will always revert to using the module for this reason. I have also heard Rumors that some vehicles act up without that module, parklights and dash lights don't work properly. I have not experienced this myself. In the end the choice is yours personally, I would recommend getting the module because using it is the proper way to install aftermarket HU's in those vehicles.

I second the notion, better to do it right the first time then to find out later that you should have.

I just posted on another cavalier post about this. I got my harness and everything from crutchfield and opted not to get the door chime adapter. All that it means is there is no door chime, because the chime was played through the stock radio. I have had no other problems with any of it besides I dont have a chime, which i dont miss (but it doesnt tell me if my lights are left on).  The only other problem is that I didnt have a constant power for my cd player and had to run it from the fuse box connected to the windshield wiper fuse (as crutchfield instructed). Hope this helps

On some late model GM's, the module is not only a chime replacement but also the linking peice that is required for the keyless entry to  function as well as the OEM alarm system. If you remove the OEM stereo and loose your alarm functions as well, you know what you need to purchase .
