hi again folks here is my question! :P

i have my marvelous lightning Audio 12 S4.12.4 300rms sub. it is currently in a airtight(leaking from a ****in bolt) sealed enclosure of  0.933 cubic feet

in the manual it says recommended sealed 1.25 cubic feet.

okay so is it a problem of having a little box? can i have a bigger box than 1.25 ???

im searching for the best sound and power and i listen to pretty much everything.

and i want to know what effect of having a little/bigger volume of a box on the bass(punching, grooving....)
and what settings of my crossover ;)

thanks for your time folks!

Teslank

There isn't too much of a problem with having the sub in too small of an enclosure but rather a difference in sound output. A samller enclosure will generally put more emphasis on upper freqeuncy ranges and more or less make it sound a little more punchy. However too small of a box will yield over all low output.

Going larger will bring the tuning freq lower, thus giving it more emphasis on the lower frequencies. And yes going too big isn't a great idea.

Using poly fill can aid if your box is on the small side, it just isn't going to work miracles. Try it, it is an inexpnsive solution. And seal that box up, put some glue or caulking in that hole!

go to walmart and buy a one pound bag of polyfill. one pound will add 40% airspace.

as fare as your crossover gose you gust have to play with it. but be careful with your gain setings if you have one. the thing you have to be careful of is seting it to high which can cause clipping not good. as for your low and high pass filters it depends on the frequency that you want to eliminate. low pass filters out frequencys above a set point. high pass filters out frequences below a set point.
