I heard that american amps are held to stricter standards and will play better than MOST of the imported overseas amps...I am talking about amps with RMS wattage of above 800w...i think there is some truth to that cause i had a pioneer on 2 cvr's and it would clip and then a kenwood on it and it clips then switched to JBL and never clipped and they were all class D mono blocks and had rms wattage 400rms-500rms... WHAT DO YOU THINK? ARE AMERICAN AMPS BETTER THAN MOST IMPORTED???? ------------- Bass-oholik

You can't make blanket statements like that. The answer is not necessarily. Some of the best amps in the world do not come from America. Also some of the worst amps in the world. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Here's an interesting thought. Amps are judged to be made in the country where the most dollars ( parts and labor) are spent in it's manufacturing. The most expensive part on most amps? The heat sink!

That's right. Plus US law states that in order to label something as "Made in USA" a "substantial portion" of the assembly must either originate in the USA (like the heat sink and the case) or a "substantial transformation" must occur in the USA - like anything labeled "Assembled in the USA" which probably means from all imported parts. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Audison makes a pretty fine imported amp......
Kenwood isn't too bad at all either......
Last I remember the Eclipse stuff wasn't bad....
Xtant is a pretty solid domestic product, whereas QX series PG wasn't.....
Gotta remember.... you get what you pay for.... sometimes you pay for what you get.

What amps are "made in America" like the good old Soundstreams and Rockords from years ago? Most stuff now is made in the far east and sold as "American " etc. You could say that if you wanted the best None American amp (European etc) then its Genesis and Sinfoni etc. I dont care who makes it!! In fact to some degree I like the Chinese stuff... They think like the English when it comes to sound.

I have alpine amps and there good dont get me wrong but these amps make my alpines sound like childs toy speaker.
if you have the cash this is the best ask around you will see talk to people who have 20-50k audio systems or if you go to like DUB magazine car shows etc. you will see these amps in alot of the vehicles

I have noticed that systems in excess of 1000w RMS per woofer have performed better with RF, Kicker, JBL, MTX, XTANT, JL all american amps ... I have a 12" rockford fosgate POWER STAGE 2 DUAL 2 ohm 1000w RMS and I had a kenwood 9152d 1000w RMS at 1ohm and a JBL power valve BP600.1 that pushes 600w RMS at 1 ohm and the JBL blows the kenwood out of the water and the JBL NEVER clipped or over heated and the kenwood overheats in 3 min of play and clips out often. this test was done on the same wiring and system setup on the same day so i tested one amp then switched them.. I WILL NEVER STRAY FROM AMERICAN AMPS EVER AGAIN!!!!

Let's not forget Sinfoni (Italy) and Genesis (England). Both compared equally to Zapco and Tru. Audison also makes some impressive products. mmmm not made in USA either.
The Speaker Works Grand National was Alpine powered and I believe Harry Kimora's first Acura system was Alpine.
There are some tweek products out there that aren't mainstream that are incredible to say the least. Not all are American made.

Bah..! Eclipse amps are, what I consider to be, a superlative imported product. In fact, outside of the JL 'slash' series of amps, there really isn't any other line of amplifiers that I would install in *my* car.
That said, I consider McIntosh and Zapco (McIntosh especially) to be superlative *American* products. And... well... lets not kid ourselves. America is a superlative nation.
We're badass baby.
That said, spitfireguy, I'm not sure if *any* of the amps you listed would be "american" amps. American holding companies and American owned computers with foriegn-designed internals designing over-engineered subs that are cheaply made in China ::cough::JL::cough:: is, I believe the extent of the "American" companies you mentioned.
That said, I am a firm supporter of globalization.
