Just installed a new hu on this ford explorer and trying to get the steering wheel controls to work, also the outside temp is not working now.  There was a second plug in the stock hu that could not be plugged into the new hu.  What can be done about this?

Use PAC SWI-X this will allow retention of factory steering wheel controlls using an IR blaster. Not sure what you may have done for the outside temp controll, check for a blown fuse.   EDIT: an Ir blaster converts your controll information into an infrared signal that is transmitted through an led that you locate near the aftermarket HU
