aux input to factory system, 98 navigator

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to implement an aux input to a factory system for a 98 navigator. I want to connect my mp3 player to it but i dont want to connect it to thru the tape player because i can hear the hissing and poping and noise. Since my truck comes with a factory cd changer, I was thinking of maybe using that. what can i use to convert my changer's connection into an aux. also, i know that by using the cd changer's connection, i will lose out on using the changer. is there a way to actually keep the changer fully functional and still get an aux input, maybe like a switch where i can switch between the 2. thank you.

you can do both. but using the cd changer and a ipod at the same time could work .but not a real good idea. if not done right you will have destorstion and noise. something you are trying to avoid by not using the tape deck. so why not consider a fm module to send the signal in through the radio reciever. they range from all different prices. but remember you'll get what you pay for. do not get a wirerless one. i recoomend a unit that will go inline with your radio's antenna. if you still feel the need to use the cd changers input use it alone for the ipod without the changer. you will need basic soldiering skillz and knoledge of resistors to trick the hu unit to think the changer is present and operational. but with the fm module you dont lose the changer.and it will be so much better in quility. lol

hi, thanks for that info but i have already used an fm module before and it was horrible, if i had to choose between the module and the tape deck, ill go for the deck. so i was referring to the changer, i guess i can go without the changer and as for soldering, no soldering, i was thinking maybe something like plug n play, where i would just disconnect the changer from the hu and plug something in its place but i dont know what its called cause i know that they sell that stuff for brand new hu with the build in changer plug in the back and you could just buy that plug that goes where you would normally plug in the changer and convert it to rca. u know, something like that. i was looking at something like this

yup that would be the way to go and cheepest without building one yourself like i suggested if you didnt want to go with the fm module. with the fm module you need to buy  a good one or you will experince what you went though before with the last one you had. thats why i said get an inline one. but they are more than you spend on that adapter you found on cruchfields site. like i said you could build one out of your old cd changer harness for a few bucks. but thats not fesible in your case so go with the adspter .lol

Actually you could not just soldier into the input stage. The reason the Soundgate piece costs so much is that is an active input adaptor. This means that not only does it tap into the changer inputs but it provides a data signal to the head unit so it will recognize that a changer is hooked up to it. Without this you would hit the changer button on the HU and it would read " no changer" or nothing at all.
