So I am in the middle of an install on my brothers Jeep Liberty. With all the wires connected I receive a loud buzz awith thumps. It effects all 6 channels and comes through the sub, mids and tweets. I hear this noise whenever the powere is coming from battery. It does not matter if the stereo is on or off of if the car is on or off, the noise is relentless. How do I fix it?

From *all* speakers you say? A nastified ground loop...?
What exactly are you installing in the Jeep? HU? Amps? Model numbers?
Check all your ground connections and make shure they're super tight.. try running a discrete wire from the HU to the battery and the HU ground to the chassis. That has solved lotsa mystery HU problems for me..

I am running Pioneer DEH p80MP head. MB Quart PCE 216 component set up front. Pioneer Premier 4 way Ts-A640P in the back. an MTX 564 amp for the highs and an MTX class D, not sure the model number. An MTX 5500 10" sub. But can it be a ground loop with the Car on or off...and or the stereo on or off? I mean the key can be out of the ignition. I thought ground loops only came through when the car was running and the cars electrical was messing things up. This noise is constant unless I un plug the battery.

The battery doesn't stop providing power when the car is off, does it? And the sheet metal that provides the ground return is still there, right? That should answer your question. ;) Noise produced when the car is running is usually called alternator whine, but it can come from spark plug wires, etc. too. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Now how bout for the fact that it happens when the stereo is on or off?

That's kinda why I think ur battery is introducing power into your audio system somewhere along the line.
But not only can we not see ur installation or check your wiring we still don't know all what kinda equipment ur using...

Check and see if your amps are on when you are hearing this thump. Theoretically they shouldn't because your deck is not on, but check the indecator lights.

check your ground at the battery. If you have a loose battery post clamp or connection to the chassis, you may experience something to what you are describing. ------------- a true canadian eh!

I am going to bypass all existing wiring. I am going to run + and - from the battery. I am also going to add a toggle switch to a + 12v for my switched power. My only question is with the illumination wire Is it correct that if I were to not connect the illumination wire, my deck will always have the same brightness no matter what the vehicle displays brightness is?

The illumination for my amps was indeed on with the deck off. I double checked and the remote power was wired into the switched accessory power line as it should be. With the noise it blew the HU fuse twice. Which I think means that my deck was receiving power through the RCA cables. Other then blowing the fuse should the deck still be okay? Or because the RCAS are on the opposite side of the fuse did it frie the HU?

if the amp is on with the key off then you have the remote wrong or some stray wires on the amp. did you use connectors or just bare wire?

have you tried unplugging the RCA'S and see if it still does it? or swapping out the amp for a new one? what about swapping headunits? or trying a different set of rca's all together?... process of illimination man... car audio knowledge is like 30% installation 30% skill and experience... and like 40% troubleshooting! lol

This could be caused by the remote wire hooked to a constant sorce, why do you not have the remote wire hooked up to the deck?
Power being directly intruced into the ground, look to make sure no live wire are touching your grounding spot, or ground wire.
Did you use a harness or just hack the wires off?
There are alot of possibles depending on how much time went into the installations.

I used the wire harness that came with the deck after purchase, specifically for the vehicle. It would appear that switched power is only switched power when it wants to be, somewhere in the stock vehicle wiring there is a short that will turn my switched power on randomly, which with the deck off, and the amps on is a big problem, as some of you know. I think I fried the HU with the RCA's grounding through it I think, is the deck salvageable? I replaced the fuse twice, but the second time the HU was starting to smell like it was burning up

I used connectors and or harness everywhere. The only wire splices I had to do were power for the ipod hookup and the remote turn on for the amps, I spliced into the switched on wire lead that goes to the Headunit.. Definately seems to be the vehicle wiring, not mine, at least I hope. I will let you guys know if bypassing the vehicles wiring fixes it, hopefully get to attack it Saturday night.
