I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder with the Bose 6 Cd-Indash Changer.  Ever since about 50000 miles it stops playing Cds and reads ERR 2 when you try to play them.  It primarily happens after it has been playing for a significant amount of time.  It has already been sent out for service for 6 weeks and it has done it twice since it came back.  Does anyone know what causes this problem or is anyone else having similar problems and know how it can be resolved?

The Nissan factory six disc cd changers are all bad. I have a 01 Pathfinder, and I have had two cd units replaced while the suv was under warranty... My unit gave the save error about 2 1./2 months back. After searching the net I found that there are a few hunderd people with the same problem.

I just bought an Alpine six disc cd changer, which plays mp3's, along with the soundgate ALSN1 adapter, and the Alpine mbus cable.   I plan to do the install at the end of the week..

There is no point getting your six disc changer repaired as the problem is going to happen again, and again.

will post more info once I do the install.

Yea let me know how the install goes and where you bought everything and how much it all costs cause I would rather have the mp3 compatibility.

just a follow up.. I finally got the Alpine CD changer installed into my patherfinder last night..

Everything works fine.

For anyone who is debating getting the Alpine CD changer installed after the factory CD player dies.  The CD changer will have to be mounted in the trunk as it doesn't fit any where in the front or the glove compartment -> This is where I was planning to installed it in the first place<-

Since the car has front powered seats installing the changer under the front seats is no good.  The only option you have is to put holes on the back of the front seats if you want to install it there, but I didn't want to put holes in the seats.

In the end the CD changer sits out of the way in the trunk on the left side so one can still put tables, and chairs in the trunk or massive amounts of luggage with out worrying about the CD changer.

The Factory radio/tape deck has some negative points controlling the CD changer.

Every time the car is powered  off the CD changer will restart from disc one as in you cannot start off from where you left off like with most factory radio's.  I was some what upset with this as my Benz which has an Alpine as well doesn't have this problem but then again the factory radio in the Benz by Becker is miles ahead of the piece of junk that Nissan is using..  Hopefully in the future Nissan will let Pioneer, Sony, or Pansonic make the Radio's, and CD changers for them.

On a postive note you can still use the steering wheel controls to control the alpine cd changer like one could with the factory cd changer.   Also the factory radio amazed me with able to display all my MP3 tracks which one disc was a total of 76 tracks. Remember you wont see the text of the song, you will see the track numbers only.

Once I got everything working I started to wonder how does one change the disc with factory radio. I had to check the manual for that..  To change the disc number use the up, and down arrows located in between the audio button on the top right side of the radio.

A friend of mine working at Circuit City  in the car stero area helped me do the install to insure everything was done right.

As for the price for the equipment..

Sound Gate ALSN1 $89.98 then the Alpine mbus cable $13.98

Alpine Mp3 CD changer $184 new with shipping (ebay)

Total was around $295 for everything..
