ok im redoing my whole system and i am wanting to know what i should be needing as far as power supply goes. right now i have a 180 amp HO alt, stock battery, capacitor(i plan on getting rid of this when i sell my old system), and im going to be running 6 memphis PR 15" subs being powered by 2 memphis 1000D's. Thats 2000wrms of amp power and 1500 watts of sub power. I plan on upgrading to 0 guage wiring and distributing it into 4 guage to each amp. I was looking at kinetik batterys but im not sure what i should do as far as my power supply goes. A guy at the local shop told me that i should buy 2 extra yellow top batterys and put them in the back of my expedition. If anyone could lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, Thankyou.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but you should get a higher output alternator.  Adding more batteries does not do any good if you can't keep em charged.  by my calculations  watts/volts=amps.  Your amplifiers alone will be eating up 166.66 amps at 12 volts.   2000watts/12volts=166.66amps.

Running with the headlights, AC and stereo loud may be more load then your alternator can put out which would drain your multiple batteries.  Slowly drain them and kill them.

I agree with jeep. A 200 or 250 would be the ticket for you my freind. I would not waste money on yellow tops. If all your batts are going to be in the engine compartment, regular 1000 cca batts will do. I run 2 Duralast 1000's and they work very well. Plus they have 3 year replacement. If your batt is going inside your ride, it will have to be sealed like a yellow top. Battcap makes a very small sealed 800amp batt. It works very well. Make sure you upgrade the new alt wire to 1/0 wire as well.

depends on how much money you wanna spend...i got one yellow top free and paid $75 for the second...no high output alternator for me and my jbl 2200.1(2200 watts rms) on my 4 alpine type r 1242d's...and my system never drops below 12.8 volts...with a/c...headlights...and stereo crankin...not even at an idle...yellow tops are only a waste if mismatched...batterys are like a bucket of power...your fact alt may need more time to charge a bigger bucket yes...easiest and cheapest way if you are paying full price however would be a new alt...however if you can get deals on battery's...go for it...if matched up right...they are a great fix

i would get a larger alternator. at least 225 amps. and get a hc 2400 kinetik battery for under the hood. a kinetik battery is far better than a yellow top. look at www.kinetikaudio.com a check out the amps and ca numbers.

I actually have a 200 amp ho alternator, not 180 amp. I just got it installed about a month ago and i dont want to spend anymore money on a new alternator and getting it installed. I never have the air conditioning on. I always have the windows down. So i wouldnt be using that much energy from the battery. Say i go with a kinetik battery and stick with my 200 amp alt, u think i will be ok with that?
