what is the problem with my system? i get brutal engine noise/whine when i turn on my rear defrost!! help!!

is it noise on all functions? or only on radio? or only on disc/cassette?

all functions. when the ac and defrost is off, i get i slight "crack" when i hit the brakes, too. but i am most concerned with the defrost causing brutal engine noise.
