Subject: GM Bose Radio Retrofit

I am hoping to install a GM Bose Radio from a 2003 Trailblazer into a 1999 GMC Yukon Denali. My problem is that the newer radio will not stay on for more than a few seconds. I believe this has to do with the fact that the radio is not recieving an "on signal" that the newer vehicles seem to provide. Any thoughts on making this work would be great.

1) Does the 1999 have Bose already?
2) The 1999 does not have a Class2 databus that will turn the Trailblazer radio on......

won't work. the Trailblazer is a class 2 vehicle and the Denali is not. the trailblazer radio needs to see a data signal to turn on, also since it is a bose radio there is only a 2 channel output.

Yup, not possible and in reality not worth it at all under no circumstances for no reason etc... ------------- Certified Security Specialist

Being that I work in developement of serial control technology, I have to ask......does anyone know where I could put my hands on the serial command string?; thus allowing me to emulate a class 2 vehicle.

It really isn't as simple as that. Yes, it is a simple serial bus. No, it won't be simple to emulate, as you would need to somehow reverse engineer the code that the radio is recieving from the vehicle. For the amount of work involved in doing this (not to mention.... how are you going to get the Trailblazer radio to physically stay in the dash? Are you swapping the substructure and trim out of a newer truck into the Yukon?)
Does the Yukon have BOSE already? If not, there is another completely different set of obstacles to overcome....

Yes, I understand that it wont be simple, but I enjoy a bit of a challenge every now and then. The Yukon does have the bose system in it, so I am not concerned about that, and yes, the interior is basically getting a complete face lift incorporating as much of the recent year styling as possible. The project originally started as such, that the interior would be first, then the drive train, then the exterior, but I guess If I go ahead and install the new drivetrain complete with cpu, I will aleviate most of my problems. Thanks anyway.

FYI, class 2 GM vehicles with bose use a 2 channel fixed signal output with the volume being controlled in the amp VIA the class2 databus.
Now unless you're also using the amp from the trailblazer AND can convince the radio it's still connected to the trailblazers BCM (btw that's how the new theftlock works, by storing a portion of the vehicles VIN and if it doesn't match what it's getting, no function) ------------- Shaughn Murley

I was just getting to that Shaughn....
Appears he's got some extra time on his hands, and is turning the Yukon into an oversized Trailblazer (swapping drivetrain, etc). I mean, it could all be done, providing he has a very complete set of shop manuals for both vehicles, a complete Trailblazer donor, a Tech2 GM scan tool, and lots and lots of time.... If some of the TDI freaks could get a complete 2003 TDI drivetrain, instrument cluster, and even double din radio to work in a 1982 VW Caddy pickup...... as long as you have the tools, the time, and a good donor, it is plausible that he can pull it off. As far as using a generic controller to provide the databus to the radio.... forget it.

why dont you just buy the vehicle you want? instead of trying to "build" it??
