hello all. noob here!! i have a question about my 00 ex. i installed a lightning audio mono amp with the high level inputs from the very rear speakers and still have the factory deck. when i turn on the key after letting it sit, there is no sound coming out of the speakers until i pull out the high level input wires. then the sound comes then i can plug the high level input back in and it works fine till the next time i turn off the key. if i shut off the factory deck, when i turn it on it works ok. just when i turn off the key is when i have problems. is the factory amp seeing too much load on it to turn on or........ any help would be great thanks clarence

Amplifier high level inputs fail more often than they work. The thing is, they're made as a add-on freebie with the amplifier and are bare-bones little bits of electonics. You need an aftermarket adjustable line output converter instead, one that is touted as high-quality. It will have a much more lenient range of input and is adjustable to the deck's voltage output (which is higher, and noisier, in the speaker wires than an aftermarket deck's line level output is.) This combination of requirements makes an output converter a very important little necessity when you are using the factory head unit. Get the best you can get for the task. The symptoms run the gamut, but the culprit invariably is the amp's high level input circuitry.

Also, if your system has the factory sub in the rear quarter panel you might want to go there for the input signal. Already low level, higher output that your rear speakers. and won't be effected by balance, fade and such. All in all whenever i am forced to do hi-low converters in ford suvs. i always go there for the signal.

mine does not have the factory rear sub. i fibreglassed one into the rear doors. so all in all, it is the fault of the amp?? not my shortcomings?? why have the connections there in the first place then if all they are going to do is make a person frustrated!!! thanks for the replies clarence

So they can charge more for the amp. Then charge you again to buy the correct LOC. Its all about the money  -------------
