I have a question and I hope you guys can answer. I just bought this amp for 160 its like a 400 dollar amp. Good deal I don't know. I was in the local sounds store and the guy hates sony's, he said that they do not put out true power. Now here are the specs below.
Key Features:
- 300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
- 600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
- 1,000 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm
- 1-ohm stable
- Class D circuitry
- 50-300 Hz low-pass filter, 12 dB/octave
- 0-10 dB bass boost centered at 40 Hz
- MOSFET power supply and output stage
- preamp outputs
- speaker- and preamp-level inputs
- built-in test tone generator
- gold-plated connectors
- 3-way protection circuitry
- 14-1/16"W x 2-1/8"H x 10-3/16"D
I thought from this info that if I supply this amp with a 2ohm sub it will give me 600 watts RMS thats is what it says. Now the guy says that this amp only pushes 300 period. How do you know is the question is there a way to test this? And if these amp manufactures are lying about the RMS then what do you go bye.
Thanks!
The problem is, there are NO standards for testing amp power. Junk amp manufacturers often put specs like "1000watts" right on the case of the amps, and you KNOW that it can't be true. RMS ratings can be distorted with artificially high supply voltages, Very high THD (total harmonic distortion) at rated wattage, or other nasty tricks. I see Sony as more of a mid-level, hichschooler-level self done install targeted brand, though I have seen some nice installs with them. I havn't heard any of the new amps, so I can't comment on them personally. I think you will get decent sound and power out of it, and I think that you probably got a decent deal on it too. Don't listen to other people or specs, listen to your ears.

Ditto on NyxBass.
Good deal, good power. Sony amp? Probably not the cleanest output you can get however, you're not trying to win any shows right?! Also, probably shouldnt try to run it at 1 ohm and EXPECT it to last very long.
To answer your question - advertised output is 600w x 1 at 2ohms, it probably comes close at 14.4 volts as tested. Would you be disappointed if it only put out, say, 400w at 11volts? If you are, shoulda bought something more expensive.
Go for it.
