As some of us are also on that forum I'll offer my .02. You can overpower a sub all day long and not blow them provided you do not send a clipped signal into them and you do not play them for extended periods of time. A subwoofer must be allowed to cool. No cool with uber amounts of power releases the magic smoke in the sub that makes it work.

By the same token you can also underpower a sub, here however is where clipping is much more of a problem. This causes a loss of controlled motion of the driver and builds up excess heat until again the magic smoke that makes it work is released.

Ignore calling JL, all the advice you need is right in front of you on this forum or the RX8 forum. Before I went with a dual amp system for 2 subs in that small trunk (and I know every nook and cranny of that p***k), I would do a single amp system only. Why? Less space taken up, less install time, less wiring used, EASIER to set the levels properly (you don't have to worry about one amp not matching the other). Need more info, post it up and one of the old farts like me might answer it for you.

No, I suggest one amp for the subs and a separate amp for the front and rear speakers. (if you are installing new speakers).
