I have an interior stripped 83 GMC suburban, and I mean all carpet, seats, plastic, dash... gone. I would like to build a "system" from scratch, been to best buy and circut city and have gotten a laundry list about $3000 worth of stuff that they say I need. My doors have never had a speaker in them, nor are there pre-cut holes for them.. so I can put whatever size i want in them.. There are 5million different types of size speakers, amps, crossovers, eqs.. ex..

I plan on putting down a sound deadner, and I already have 3 Kenwood 10"  W2509. From there Im open for suggestions.  Not sure of the difference between a 5 1/2- 6 1/2 and a 6x9..  Basically im looking for front door speakers, and rear door speakers.. a Deck, and 1 or 2 amps to run the subs. does it make a difference in the speakers if one 5 1/2 is 240w and a 6x9 is 280w if the deck is only using 50w per channel? If I add tweeters, how do I get a 4 channel deck to go to 6 speakers?

This web site is great, Ive gotten a lot off of here, mostley because I trust someones advice that isnt trying to sell me something.

I appreciate the help, or at least a link to Stereo building for idiots web site!

well you have your work cut out for you. i would suggest components for the front and rear. a 4 channel amp to power them. and a mono block amp for the subs. also what is the rated RMS power handling of those subs ,and VC configurtion ?

The subs are 350 RMS, 700 peak.. you mean a mono for each of them, as in 3 subs, 3 mono amps?  Like I said I'm a beginner..  not sure what "components" are same with VC.

sorry about that . let me clear things up for you. having the interior striped will make wiring much less painful. VC is for voice coil. . and components are great a small woofer 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 a tweeter and, a crossover . also before i we get any further with amp suggetions. i need to know if the subs are SVC or DVC and what the ohm impedance is.

Ok this is what Ive got offline, the subs are at home

  • Kenwood 10" KFC-W2509 4 ohm, 700w peak, 400 RMS
  • pearl mica injection-molded polypropylene woofer cone
  • overlapping ribs on cone surface for improved rigidity and dampened resonance
  • urethane foam surround
  • extended pole piece and bumped back plate for increased cone excursion
  • power range 35-350 watts RMS
  • peak power 700 watts
  • frequency range 28-800 Hz
  • sensitivity 91 dB
  • top mount depth: 4-9/16"
  • sealed box volume 0.8 cubic feet
  • ported box volume 1.0 cubic feet

They are Single coils. Sorry forgot to add that.

Im thinking about the Kenwood 9152D Mono, for subs, and a 2-3 channel for the front/rears?

that amp will work fine for the subs. and you really wanna go with a 4 channel for the components. looks like you can go all kenwood if you want to.

got it... so..  the 3 subs with 1 mono amp, 6.5 front/ rears off a 4 channel amp... so does the HU actually run anything? Guessing I dont really need an eq then?

no eq needed.  the H/U's internal amp will not be running. also what are your plans for a H/U? this is what you are going to want in a H/U. #1 front / rear/ and sub pre amp out puts. #2preamp  outputs that are 4volts or higher.#3 subwoofer control. #3 is smothing that is a must for me. thats just me though. its a nice option to have. when or if you have small children in the car.or if somthing is just to bassy. you can turn your subs down from the H/U.also this is a common mistake of new installers. be sure to run your RCA cables on the oposite side of the vehicle. to avoid engine noise. and use quality RCA cables for both amps.

Im in jacksonville, nc.  Im making a round "spare tire shaped" "box"  (28x 12ish) for 2 of the 10s, since i have a nice whole where my spare used to be.. and making an addition to my center console for the 3rd.  I've got 2 batteries, and will be getting an isolator so i can charge them both at same time..

would all the subs run off the same gauge wire?

you could use all the same gauge wire. if you want. the only thing is .the longer the wire the larger gauge it needs to be. i was assuming you would mount the amps. in the back of the vehicle.

ya so your gonna mount your amps in the back. so the sub up front will be pretty far from the amp . gonna wanna use at least 12 gauge speaker wire for that sub. Rockford fosgate had a chart that would tell you what gauge for what length and RMS power. they might have that on there web site
